Celebrating 75 Years


The following amenities are available to you during your stay at The Clearing:

The Schoolhouse was built in 1937. This stone and timber building contains two air-conditioned classrooms. A kitchenette includes a hot beverage counter, water cooler and telephone.

The Main Lodge was built in 1942. It is the hub of activity during the summer. Combined dining room, living room and library spaces offer comfortable nooks for relaxation and exceptional views of the bay and Ellison Bluff. The Lodge also contains an ice machine, hot beverage counter and telephone. Fresh fruit is out at all times and fresh coffee is out each morning by about 6:30.

The Workshop was built in 2007. It provides classroom space for classes in wood craft, glass, metal and paper arts. A kitchenette includes a hot beverage counter, telephone and a recycling bin. There is a water cooler in the foyer.

The Jens Jensen Center was built in 1996. It serves as The Clearing's visitor center, office, bookstore and gift shop.

The Root Cellar was built in 1946 and renovated in 2010. It was the last building Jens Jensen built at The Clearing. It contains a bathroom, refrigerator, water cooler and recycling bins. There are also waling sticks, picnic blankets and spare light bulbs in the Root Cellar.

The Lean-To, which is attached to the south side of Mertha's Cabin, was built in the 1940s. It contains a computer work station, printer, copy machine and recycling bins. (There is no Internet access on The Clearing's campus.)
