Taking a class at The Clearing is a wonderful and truly memorable experience, but not everyone can participate in a Clearing class every year. If you can't join us for a class this year, maybe you can join us for one or more of many special events planned for 2010. 2010 promises to be an exciting year as The Clearing will be celebrating its' 75th anniversary as a folk school and the 150th birthday of its' founder, Jens Jensen! Below is a list of some of those events and activities. You can also view these and the entire Clearing calendar, including classes, by clicking the calendar link to the left.

2010 Special Events
January 8, 22 & February 5 & 19 | 6 - 8 | Stella Maris Parish, Sister Bay
"Taste of The Clearing" potlucks are almost as much a part of The Clearing's Winter Program as the classes themselves. Meeting new friends and enjoying lively conversation during meals is a long-standing tradition of The Clearing's Summer Program. Taste of The Clearing potlucks help extend this tradition into the Winter Program. All students, instructors and one guest are invited to attend this social event in conjunction with The Clearing's Winter Program. Please bring a dish to pass able to serve 6-8 people. Doors open at 5:00 and dinner is at 6:00. Come and enjoy the camaraderie and food!
February 27 & 28 | 10 - 4 | Sister Bay Village Hall
Come be a part of The Clearing tradition of exhibiting your work to the public during the 2010 Winter Program Student Exhibit scheduled for Saturday, February 27 and Sunday, February 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please plan to drop off your items Friday, February 26 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m at the Sister Bay Village Hall. For those whose classes or travel plans don't allow for drop off on February 26, please drop off your item(s) at The Jens Jensen Center at The Clearing upon completion of your class. You will be asked to fill out an artist card. We will set up your piece for the Student Exhibit. Please plan to pick up your item(s) on Monday, March 1 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you cannot pick up your item(s) at this time, either arrange for someone else to do so, or plan to pick up your item(s) at a later date at The Clearing.
Opening Reception
May 3 | 4 - 7 | Jens Jensen Center
The Clearing Speaks is a combination of two unique exhibitions celebrating both visual and written work inspired by The Clearing's beautiful landscape, charming buildings and creative spirit. This special fund-raising event is one of many ways The Clearing community will be celebrating The Clearing's 75th anniversary in 2010. Instructors, students and friends are invited to share their artistic interpretations and perspectives of this wonderful place through unique and inspirational works of art and writing.
Week of June 27
Event details coming soon! This is a fun event with all proceeds going to The Clearing to support its mission of providing diverse educational experiences in the folk school tradition, in a quiet setting of forests, meadows and water.
July 28 | 7 - 9 | Jens Jensen Center
As we did last summer, The Clearing will again be hosting an Ice Cream Social at the Jensen Visitor Center on July 28. It will be free and open to the public. This allows our resident students, our local neighbors and people who may never have been on The Clearing's property to come and visit, share flavorful ice cream and toppings, including The Clearing's homemade hot fudge, and learn more about us! The Buchholz council ring will be fired up, and candle lit paths will again create a magical outdoor environment for everyone to enjoy. Who screams for ice cream?
